We for you. We for EVERYONE.

We midwives work in a very sensitive, very human area. We feel connected to the principles of ethics for midwives that we carry within us. It therefore feels very strange for us, who work here in the delivery room at the Alexianer St. Josefs Hospital Potsdam, that we actually formulate it that way, say it and symbolize it in an image.

But our profession also has dark times behind it. It is therefore important to us to emphasize that respect for human dignity, tolerance and respect are non-negotiable for us.

Midwives ensure the health care of all women, infants and families before, during and after the birth of a child and throughout the entire reproductive phase. We support women and their families regardless of their ethnic, social or religious background, gender, age, ideology, sexual identity, material situation, handicap, impairment, need for care or illness. Our code of ethics is based on the recognition of the dignity of every human being. We treat all people impartially and with respect.

We midwives – whether here in the delivery room, on the ward or in non-hospital work – see ourselves as committed to the values of tolerance and openness. We define family as a community that includes children. This is independent of the parents’ living arrangements. We are committed to the right of self-determination for all women. We respect and respect women’s right to sexual and reproductive self-determination. Diverse women’s roles and family models, complete equal opportunities and equality, a multicultural, diverse society, human rights, as well as social participation and justice as well as democracy and co-determination are important cornerstones of our social coexistence for us. Hostility and discrimination have no place with us.

Our mission statement summarizes all of this and more.
